MISSION   HISTORY

The mission of the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities is to provide grants, programs and education activities that encourage diverse artistic expressions and learning opportunities so that the District of Columbia residents and visitors can experience the rich culture of our city.

In partnership with the community, DCCAH promotes excellence in the arts by initiating and supporting programs, activities and policies that inspire, nurture and reflect the multi-ethnic character and cultural diversity of the District.

In 2004 the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities presented the inaugural Dance DC Festival to a community eager to learn about, be entertained by and participate in the vast array of folk and traditional dance genres present in the District of Columbia.  With the support of the community, we succeeded in bringing together many traditions and backgrounds for one weekend to unite under the universal language of dance.  The Dance DC Festival filled a long empty niche in our city and thus became an institution.

The 2nd annual Dance DC Festival again captivated DC audiences with the broad scope and sheer talent of diverse performers from around the world, all living in DC.
